Welcome to online shopping. A concept still feared by many as insecure and impersonal, but to others, a breeze and a pleasure.
E-tailing became popular, and possible, in the late 1990's when the economy was at its best and the Internet boom was flourishing. Still, shoppers were reluctant to take part due to the information traded during the transaction and the novelty of the concept of not having a tangible item to inspect at the time of purchase. However, we evolved and security has been reassured, which ushered in a whole new way of shopping.
Cyber Monday started in 2005 by Shop.org. E-tailers, and stores who participate in e-commerce, offer similar (if not better) discounts as Black Friday deals while shoppers can enjoy the comfort of their own home, or office chair, while snagging deals and steals without having to wait in line. One of the biggest benefits of online holiday shopping is the ability for consumers to order gifts for friends and family, write a personalized message during checkout, select gift wrapping options and have it scheduled to deliver on a date of your choice to the recipients doorstep!
Do be careful if you are attempting to shop while on the job, in 2011 22% of employers fired workers for using company property to shop online on Cyber Monday. A day that has had an increase of profitability as high as 22% since 2006. Talk about stimulating the economy!
Coinciding with the sales, e-tailers and retailers prepare for Cyber Monday shipping and stocking of items as well as handling returns in store during the subsequent weeks. The best savings seem to be on electronics and home goods at many participating stores.
So don't lose hope if you didn't get a chance to wake up at 1AM to get the bargains on Black Friday, you still have a chance to get them while in your PJs on Monday!
Happy shopping my friends and Happy Holidays!
