On Trend: The Winter Cape

November is the season of choices like who to vote for in the election, where to spend the holidays, whether or not to stick to our diets over Thanksgiving and which bold trends you will sport for the winter weather.  One style piece in particular I want to address is the winter cape.
The cold weather cape is a huge part of the current style in the UK and Europe as a whole. Spotted all over Paris Fashion Week and London Fashion Week among the street style, the cape dominated the photographers' lenses.  Here in America, I have yet to see one being worn in public. Granted here in California, the weather isn't exactly what you would call "Fall" quite yet, but Los Angelenos are already wrapped in scarves and knee high boots.

The cape is a bold trend, however. It is not exactly for the fad followers, more the style setters.  This statement piece can be worn in many different ways, which is why it is so fitting for varying body shapes.  I have seen it worn with leggings and ankle boots, as a coat dress, open like a hero's cape as well as with a hood. There are also short ones that are worn just over the shoulders, still showing off the rest of the outfit. Just in case you might not be ready to make such a bold statement, try a more fitted version like this belted cowl neck sweater.
Either way, if you are going to attempt the classic number, make sure the rest of what you wear it with is understated since this statement piece will dominate the look and will not be competing with the rest of your garb.
I can't wait to see more capes and cold weather rolling in together here in Los Angeles, we are catching up with the rest of you!
